Construction Updates

Construction of the Merced Avenue Greenway began on January 8, 2024. This greenway is designed to capture rainwater, improve water quality, restore habitats, and provide amenities for pedestrians and cyclists. The first phase of construction, completed in 2024, focused on the section of Merced Avenue south of Rush Street. The design phase for Phase 2 is currently underway, which will enhance the section north of Rush Street and ending at Fern Street. Once fully completed, this project will serve as a scalable model that can be replicated within the City of South El Monte and throughout the region.
Two images stacked. One image is of Merced avenue facing north. There is a big cargo truck in the left lane. The bottom picture is of Merced Avenue facing south with a line of residential houses. The image is meant to depict the state of Merced Avenue before construction.
